Reyna is a 29-year-old woman who learned from her mother how to start a business, regardless of her educational level. She had the opportunity to complete secondary education.
Reyna is a married woman with one child (10) who receives an education up to the fourth grade.
She and her husband have a family business fattening pigs. When the pigs are big, Reyna sells the meat. Since she has several orders, she needs the first Kiva loan to buy pigs.
There are seven women in the Community Bank of Puente de Amistad Entrepreneurs of Monterrey, located in the coastal area in the Department / State of Retalhuleu.
Most of them attended high school. Women understand the importance of a good education, although it is not free in Guatemala.
They have small businesses that range from selling food to raising animals (pigs, chickens). The profit they obtain from businesses is used so that their children have a complete education and increase the family's standard of living.
Women appreciate the monthly educational trainings, which is part of the Microcredit Plus program (loans + education + health), where they acquire information on health, nutrition, hygiene and use of medicinal plants, as well as prioritize expenses.
In this process, women gain self-esteem and become more empowered.
