A loan helped a member to buy chicken for her food business and spare parts for her taxi service.

Eben Ezer De Malacatan Group's story

Many of the clients of Puente de Amistad [Friendship Bridge] seek businesses due to customer demand. Brenda (age 33), married and the mother of three children (ages 6 to 17) is one of them. She sold second-hand clothing for ten years, but this was not enough. Six years ago, she was able to begin selling chicken Monday to Friday and snacks on the weekends. She has a rented space in the market. With her husband, she also manages a business using a three-wheeled taxi called a "mototaxi". Thanks to their combined income, the children receive primary and secondary school education.

Brenda requests her second loan to buy chicken and spare parts for the "mototaxi". For the future, she visualizes having a fleet of "mototaxis" and a place of her own in the market.

In the communal bank “Eben Ezer Malacatan” of Puente de Amistad there are seven women who live in the department [state] of San Marcos. They wish to invest in their businesses of selling cut-up chicken, food, and clothing. Brenda had the opportunity to complete high school, but the other group member have little education. During their educational training sessions, they learn about business practices, preventive medicine, hygiene, nutrition, women, and family. This is included in the program of loans, education, and health services called "Microcrédito Plus" of Puente de Amistad.

Kiva lenders, in partnership with Puente de Amistad, play a crucial role in developing the lives of Guatemalan women. Thank you!
