A loan helped a member to buy more gas, and chickens and feed for them.

Trabajadoras Por Fe Group's story

Twenty-nine-year-old Ingrid has an eighth grade education and left school because she got married. She and her husband own a gas business and he is the delivery man! They have three children who range in age from 3 to 9. Two of them attend primary school.

Ten years ago, the couple opened their gas business. Four years ago, she began to raise chickens that she sells from her home and from the local market. Her goals are to increase the size of both businesses and be able to cover more household expenses. She requests her second Kiva loan to buy more gas, and chickens and feed for them.

Ingrid is the President of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Trabajadoras Por Fe” in the department/state of Huehuetenango. There are eight women in the group who make tortillas in their “tortillerias” or delicious “tostadas”. Others have the same businesses as Ingrid. Since they have little or no formal education, these ladies benefit greatly from monthly educational training, part of the “Microcredit Plus” program. The training is designed by a facilitator who uses pictures, drawings, games, and role-playing to share information drawn from four areas: health, family, women, and business.

It would be impossible for Ingrid and the women in the Trust Bank to walk into a bank to secure a loan. Kiva lenders are highly appreciated for their kindness and their generosity. Thank you to each of you!
