Raised in a small family business founded the year she was born, Hanna witnessed and contributed to its growth from street market vending to an established brick-and-mortar storefront in Austin, Texas. These experiences solidified a deep respect for the vision, commitment and sacrifice that entrepreneurs, and their families, bring to their work. International travel, particularly in India, Mexico and Thailand, raised her awareness of the ingenuity that entrepreneurship requires, especially in communities with fewer financial resources. She is proud to bring these perspectives to her work as Kiva’s public relations intern. Prior to joining Kiva, Hanna pursued careers in environmental advocacy and science communication. She earned her bachelor’s degree in political science from Wellesley College and a master’s in environmental change and management from Oxford University. She was the Administrator for the Caddo Lake Institute and, more recently, the Communications Specialist for Nebraska EPSCoR, an infrastructure-building program of the National Science Foundation. In her off hours you’ll find her exploring San Francisco with her dog and husband, pursuing naturalist guides and cookbooks, cycling, practicing and teaching yoga, and searching out improv comedy theaters.
