Fortaleza De Dios Group's story
Twenty-seven year old Jacqueline is the married mother of a six-year-old daughter who attends kindergarten. Two years ago her husband left to earn income in the United States.
Rural Guatemalan women like her often advertise their businesses on social media. She sells backpacks and casual/used clothing/lingerie, as well as personal care products, a business she opened five years ago. Selling on the internet has been quite beneficial for Jacqueline.
Her goals are to have her own storefront, open additional branches, and employ community members. She requests her fourth Kiva loan to add more merchandise to her business and attract new customers.
Seven women have elected Jacqueline to be the Secretary of their Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Fortaleza de Dios” or “Strength of God”. They participate in the “Microcredit Plus” program that consists of loans, monthly educational training (business, health, family, women) and bi-monthly health care services (exams, consults, family planning).
Recent topics for the training have centered around the dangers of over-indebtedness and of lending one’s name to another’s business. The health program is called “Health for Life.” The program is essential for their success since they have little or no formal education and health care is challenging to access.
Thank you, Kiva lenders, for your kindness in lending a helping hand to Jacqueline and her friends! They are creating pathways toward a more successful future!
