Santa Ana Pochuta Group's story

Twenty-nine-year-old Keily is raising three children ranging in age from eight months to ten years old. One of them is enrolled in the third grade. Keily looks forward to sending the others to school when they are old enough. She had a ninth-grade education and is married to a bricklayer helper. Keily makes and sells delicious tamales and regional snack foods three days each week. She sells from her home. When there is high demand, her sisters help her with the business. Keily has the goal of moving her business out of her home and into its own space. She is requesting her first Kiva loan to buy corn and firewood at the wholesale level.

Six women elected Keily to be President of their Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Santa Ana Pochuta” in the department/state of Chimaltenango. These ladies sell fruit, regional snacks, and firewood. They participate in the “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, monthly educational training (business, family, women, health), and bi-monthly healthcare services (exams, consults, family planning). These “plus” services are quite helpful to Keily and her friends, since they have little or no formal education, and healthcare services can be challenging to access.

Kiva lenders, partnering with Friendship Bridge, give these women the tools they need to create a brighter and more successful future. Thank you to each of you!
